What is Hypnosis?

Hypnosis uses deep relaxation with guided imagery or visualization. Hypnosis is defined as a state of suggestibility helping ordinary people to make a change in their life. Athletes and successful achievers use hypnosis in many areas of their lives to reach their goals and eliminate behaviors that do not serve them well.

We have all been in a hypnotic state; in fact most of us visit this state every day.

  • Have you ever been driving, and when you reach your destination, you cannot recall the journey?
  • So focused on reading a book or watching a television program that you didn't hear someone calling your name?
  • Have you ever had a brilliant idea that seems to have come from nowhere?
  • Or have you ever daydreamed?
  • Of course, we all do things like this on a daily basis. This is what it is like being hypnotized. When in hypnosis, you can hear everything going on around you, you can hear all of the suggestions you're being given and most times people say to me, " I don't think I was hypnotized." When asked why, the reply is usually, "Because I heard everything you said." This is one of the misconceptions of hypnosis! The subconscious mind then accepts these suggestions and creates the behavior changes or body changes in order to achieve the given suggestions. When in hypnotic trance, the subconscious mind is 88% more alert than in a conscious state.

    What is involved?

    An initial one-hour consultation, where your treatment needs are determined. After a history is taken, the session is completed with a relaxation session using hypnotherapy. Treatment is different for each person, a minimum of 3 sessions is recommended. Telephone support is included.

That's because our desires are conscious thoughts while our behaviors are created and motivated at a subconscious level. The simple process of hypnosis is the natural, safe and effective way for changing your unwanted behaviors.

    Belief ~ Desire ~ Expectancy

    A very important aspect in the success of clinical hypnotherapy is the combination of these three factors Belief, Desire and Expectation. You must Believe it will work...have a genuine Desire for it to work and...Expect that it will work. If these three factors are in place, then you are willing and open to suggestion.

    A habit or a belief is something you do without consciously thinking about it. It is embedded in the subconscious part of your mind. By allowing the conscious mind to relax through hypnotherapy you allow the subconscious to come to the fore. You can then change the way the subconscious mind thinks, and as a result, your behaviour or belief will change.

    No matter how much you try to consciously change your unwanted behavior patterns using your “will power”, your subconscious mind will win the mental tug of war and you inevitably return to that "stored" behavior pattern.
